2023 Shrine Furniture
Design

We designed a house covered in soil at the foot of a shrine. The furniture placed in the dining room of the house.
We tried to extract various elements of the shrine's architectural elements, such as the majestic curved rafters overlapping each other, the solemn roof with organic curves, and the colors that evoke a great history due to changes over time, and collage them into furniture.
We created an unprecedented 1200mm diameter Ohi amber glaze tile. The tile was carefully fitted into the table to fuse earth and wood.
After the COVID-19 pandemic, people's working styles have become more diverse, and even the nature of communities has changed. We learned the value of real-life interactions and the richness of people joining hands and "praying". In ancient times, "shrines" were sacred mountains, waterfalls, rocks, forests, and giant trees, and were revered as places where "kami" resided, and were considered "shrines" even without a shrine building. This is a story about furniture that was fortunately given various inspirations from the "kami" of all things in the universe.
